Save the Children
Save the Children is a children’s charity that is based within the UK but operates internationally. The charity campaigns for the protection of children’s rights across the world. Save the Children also strives to provide education for children who are not receiving it, as well as to reduce child poverty. The charity aims to combat malnutrition in children by ensuring people have access to food and the ability to afford food on a sustainable basis. The charity carries out numerous health-related efforts, such as providing vaccinations against a range of conditions, as well as support and advice on a variety of health issues within local communities so that people do not have to travel great distances in order to obtain medical assistance. Save the Children also works towards providing education regarding HIV and Aids in order to reduce the number of babies who are born with HIV, as well as to properly care for babies and children affected by HIV and Aids, as well as Aids-related illnesses. The charity is also involved in a number of initiatives that help people to work around the effects of climate change, such as alternative means of earning income in areas that traditionally rely heavily on agriculture for income but which are being increasingly affected by droughts or floods.
Save the Children raises funds through dance challenges, school and youth group projects, walks, marathons, endurance events, tennis tournaments, as well as overseas climbing, trekking and cycling challenges. Additional sources of fundraising include street collections, charity shops, cake bake days, legacies, as well as regular and one-off donations.
